How Can We Become Enlightened

Enlightenment has to be worked for – it has more to do with the release of personal blockages than in finding a technique. Unconditional love is the key.
Includes a led meditation exercise and questions.
How can one become enlightened? I want to look at this question in an unusual way. You may be expecting me to speak about meditating, finding that quiet place within, but I want to open it out beyond that.
When you came into this physical body you chose your parents, not for what they are but for the challenges they would create for you, for your evolutionary journey. And you each brought with you a whole host of experiences spread over many incarnations. So when one talks about enlightenment, we are of course talking about furthering the journey that you have already begun and how you go about that; and that is something totally individual. It is certainly connected with finding some form of fulfilment because in the whole process of finding fulfilment lies, deep down within, that urge that has chosen this body to expand your experiences in your unique way.
When you were first created by the Godhead, you started with nothing but a spark, a spark that could ignite into a myriad of stars – something that was totally individual, totally unique, and that had the gift of choice and freewill. That was how you started experiencing.
On one level I could say that finding enlightenment is about finding unconditional love in which, of course, you allow yourself to open out in a totally free way, having come to terms with your fears, your misgivings, the areas where you feel disempowered, the areas where you feel you would like to be other than what you are, the areas where you feel anger against members of your family and maybe against world leaders.
So when one talks about enlightenment, how is one going to reach out and find it? Is it a case of just letting something happen? It is certainly a case of looking at all the blockages in your life and I would place that as one of the priorities. And I would suggest that that is more important than using some technique to deliberately find enlightenment, whether it be through a religion, a sect, or through something like yoga or meditation. Of course these can be tools, but tools that will not find their optimum value unless you have faced those aspects that you have brought into your body from the past, and from this life as well, where you have felt trapped – where you look at a situation and immediately feel angry with it, because you are polarising it through an early memory that is triggered within you. And when you feel angry with someone like a world leader, remember you are fuelling the negative side of them through your anger, exaggerating the polarisation that is already taking place.
This is why unconditional love is so important. Of course you have to make some kind of protest, you have to express what you believe and what you feel; but you also have to listen, to hear and understand what the other person or persons are saying, and to try to understand why they are saying it and where they are coming from. If there are organisations, people or situations that disempower you, look inside yourself and ask, ‘What is blocking me? Is it something of the spirit? Is it something of the mind? Is it something of the body? Well, of course, it is always all of these things because they all make up part of the whole. If you find in your life that there are certain circumstances that seem to push you into a corner, circumstances that make you want to choke – then that is the moment to really look, then you know you are making progress.
So what I would like to do with your permission, is to allow each one of you to look back at your lives, look back at the circumstances that seem to have surrounded you. Look at the instances and the people who have seemed to block you. Remember, there is no such thing as success or failure, those are expectations of the mind and are in themselves blockages. Of course we are coming right back, are we not, to your fears, to that deepest part of you. So I am going to ask you to enter into this with me.
First, allow your physical body to relax . . . with no expectation, no success and no failure. Just feel yourself finding a freedom, a freedom from the physical . . .
And I would like you now to go back to your moment of birth . . . and then right
back to the moment of entering the physical at the moment of fertilisation -
And as you pause to look back in time, you can begin to sense all that you have brought with you: the understanding, the love, the fears, the hatred . . . yet through that your uniqueness and the knowledge that you are a thought of that ultimate consciousness, call it what you will . . .
And from your perspective at that moment when your parents were making love and you
were making your final decision, what were your feelings? How did you feel, sense,
acknowledge yourself? What were you hoping to do with your life once you had come
into that body? . . . Now in your minds, dear ones, I am going to ask you to re-
‘I am just about to enter this body and I am going to enter it without expectation, with only that natural instinct and urge within my spirit that takes me forward, moves me forward all the time, widening my horizons of understanding . . .
‘And as I enter this physical body I acknowledge both my light and my shadow, my love and my hate, and I am going to use this lifetime in a free and open way, acknowledging that whatever I do during this life, I am going to accept. I needed to do that because that is where I am at this point in my evolution. And I have love for the energies around me, even though some may resent me coming into this body. But I know that it is going to be mine because that urge is so strong in me to come into that body.’
And then as the moment of conception takes place, suddenly find yourself in that
fertilised seed – and allow it to grow and come right forward through to the moment
of birth . . . and then as you gently allow your inner self very briefly to re-
Gradually come forward to this moment in time in this room, and feel that you are really bringing into your body, your mind and your spirit and every part of your being, a feeling of wholeness . . ., a feeling of expansion . . . an acknowledgement of both the love and the hate within you, for they are an inherent part of you – they need to be part of you, otherwise there is no choice . . . and you can make that choice.
And this, may I suggest dear friends, is a moment of enlightenment because it brings your whole raisin d’etre into the present, into this moment of time . . . It is open and it is saying to you:
‘ I do not have to be what the world calls a religious or spiritual person, I can just be me. My enlightenment can come through looking after my garden, through the job that I do, through the people that I meet, through my relaxation, through my pleasure and through my anger and negativity . . . for spirituality is a total acknowledgement of every aspect of my being.’
And with that thought of wholeness still lingering, I would like you once again to become aware of yourself, in your body, here in this room.
Can I reassure you that spirituality is a total acknowledgement of every aspect of
your being; it is not sitting cross-
I fully appreciate that when I talk of unconditional love, it is not truly possible in a physical body but it is something that you can work towards. It comes through freedom of thought, freedom of being and forgiveness.
Nevertheless, I am going to ask you now to send a thought of unconditional love, as far as you are able, to every other person in your family and circle of friends . . . and then beyond to every other person you have met in your life; acknowledging that negative feelings can only create more negativity, revenge can only create more revenge. But unconditional love creates more love, more harmony, more peace.
So that, dear friends, is my concept of finding enlightenment. It is looking at it as a whole and recognising that it lies in every thought, action and deed. It lies within everything that we do in our lives – turning on the television, watching a film, getting angry in a supermarket, whatever. How does that feel?
Liberating.
Good, liberating.
It feels expansive…just opening.
Are there any questions that would anyone would like to ask? Are there any thoughts or statements anyone would like to make?
I would like to ask about working on our blockages and how we can identify them more quickly and work through them?
By freeing your thoughts. You used the word liberation; through liberation is my answer to you. And I would like to say to you all, every spirit in a physical body has blockages. It is about finding, seeking through those blockages and taking the next step forward, accepting that they are there, thinking about them, talking about them appropriately, writing about them. Spend time each day reviewing what your responses have been to your friends and situations. Do you feel comfortable with them all? Or do you feel some of them reflected something in you and were projections from your own inner self? The most important thing of all is not to be impatient with yourself, evolution is unique to every individual spirit and there are no examinations, no diplomas to be won. It is an ongoing process, experiential, empirical.
Whilst in one sense academic and intellectual advances have been made on the planet that have helped in many ways, they have also created further barriers, for they have not allowed for that freedom of thought. And that can be a fear in itself. Someone makes a scientific discovery – this is the answer, they say, and then they become fearful that someone will destroy their vision. They are not acknowledging that their vision needs to expand and move forward, that it is not the ultimate.
I have been able to advance what I have said considerably through this sensitive over the years, in acknowledging that people are ready to think more deeply, more thoroughly, and more openly now than they were in the past. It is not wrong to have a blockage because the whole of your being is about light and shadow.
So when something happens during the day, look at it in the evening and say to yourself, ‘That is an example of where I feel blocked’, or even ‘I blocked myself’. Then thank yourself because you have acknowledged it. So when a similar situation arises again, you will not need to react in such a way because you will have moved beyond that reaction. And if not, repeat the same loving, tolerant attitude towards yourself – and yet again, if necessary.
So just by acknowledging a block in that way, dissipates it?
Acknowledging it is the greatest step towards removing it. Of course you can go to a healer, a counsellor, someone who will help you in that process. But at the end of the day, it is only you who can take that step forward, through becoming more aware. Does that help?
Yes, thank you.
An area in which I have encouraged many people, is to expand their consciousness
either psychically or creatively, or both. On a fine level, these are means of
linking through to your spirit. Find interests in which you can begin to expand
your intuition, your imagination, that right-
I would like to ask something. It is going a little bit off the subject perhaps,
but all these young people being told that if they kill themselves they will go to
heaven and reach the highest point -
You must understand that an aspect of the human psyche has the need to be a hero and this is the ultimate heroic action: dying to save somebody else or for what they feel is a just cause. But very often, spirits who commit acts of suicide bombing like this become Earthbound; because after leaving their body they begin to see what they have done and what they might have done as an alternative. For every spirit, when it leaves the body at the moment of death, goes through a kind of evaluation of that life. ‘I came into it at the moment of conception with certain hopes that I wished to achieve. At the end of that life did I achieve any of those hopes or none, or worse still, did I go in the opposite direction?’ And this is where fixed thinking is dangerous because it does not allow you to expand, to accept and move through your own blockages. For every life is how it is, no more and no less. There is no such thing as a good life or a bad life – there is only the living and the being and that perhaps is the greatest enlightenment of all.
There is no such thing as a good life or a bad life – there is only the living and the being and that perhaps is the greatest enlightenment of all.
And when we look at the evolution of your planet and the way that it has gone, one of the great sadnesses to many angelic beings is that humankind has become so stuck in its spiritual beliefs that that in itself is creating the very negativity that it is seeking to avoid. God is the ultimate being of unconditional love, in the God consciousness there is no revenge and no retribution, no right, no wrong, only being. And a being where there is total liberation, freedom, acknowledgement.
So do not condemn the people who carry out these acts, they need help, they need forgiveness, for there are many who will hate them and condemn them. So they need plenty of unconditional love and the freedom to move beyond the tomb that they have created for themselves.
Now I am not a prophet of doom; I believe that, overall, the world is going through a stage of tremendous enlightenment. At this present time it is going through a very painful stage where there is a very deep confrontation between what has been and what is possible. But humankind has got to move beyond the need of judgement. Of course you have to have laws that protect people from people who are unable to conform, but there is a difference between that and the need for revenge and retribution. You see it very prevalently in the Middle East, and in many other countries, of course, including America. So if you pray at night, send out plenty of unconditional love.
Thank you. I have love for each and every one of you. It is unconditional and does not seek a return. It is there for you . . . Goodnight.
